The Best Email Marketing Software for Shopify in 2026

Email should be 25–35 % of a Shopify store's revenue. Which platform gets you there depends on your monthly sales volume more than on any feature — and the crossover point is around $20k a month.

For a Shopify store, email is the highest-margin channel available: you own the list, no algorithm sits between you and the customer, and the incremental cost of a send is close to zero. A well-run store sees email drive 25–35 % of total revenue.

Getting there depends on behavioural segmentation — being able to say "customers who bought twice, last ordered 60 days ago, never used a discount code" and have that audience build itself from live order data. Every platform below can technically do this. They differ enormously in how well, and in what they charge.

Match the platform to your revenue

This is the single most useful framing, and it beats any feature comparison. The value of sophisticated segmentation scales with the number of purchase events you generate — below a certain volume there simply is not enough behavioural data for it to act on.

Approximate monthly platform cost at 10,000 contacts
Brevo (2 sends/contact) ~$39 Omnisend ~$115 Mailchimp Standard ~$110 Klaviyo Email ~$200

Indicative pricing at the 10,000-contact band, USD, billed monthly. Brevo is priced on send volume so its figure assumes two sends per contact per month. All four vendors adjust bands regularly — confirm before budgeting.

1. Klaviyo — best for stores over $50k/month

Klaviyo Top pick
Ecommerce lifecycle marketing with revenue attached to every flow.
Free plan Excellent
8.4/10

What works

  • Every flow reports attributed revenue — the clearest ROI picture in email software
  • Segmentation runs on full ecommerce event history, not just tags
  • Predictive analytics (CLV, churn risk, next order date) included at standard pricing
  • Shopify and WooCommerce integrations are deep, not superficial

What doesn't

  • Gets expensive fast for content businesses that do not sell products
  • Steeper learning curve than Mailchimp for a first-time email owner
  • Template editing is more constrained than dedicated design-first tools
Best for: Ecommerce stores past roughly $20k/month where email should be 25–35 % of revenue.
Skip it if: You run a media or B2B newsletter with no purchase events to segment on.

Try Klaviyo free

Klaviyo is the most capable ecommerce email platform available, and for a store at scale it is not a close call. The Shopify integration syncs full order and browse history rather than a summary, which is what makes genuine behavioural segmentation possible.

The decisive feature is revenue attribution. Every flow, every message and every variant reports attributed revenue. You can see that browse abandonment produced $4,200 last month and that message three within it produced almost nothing. That turns email from a channel with open rates into a channel with a P&L — and it changes what you work on, which is where the compounding happens.

Predictive analytics — customer lifetime value, churn risk, expected next order date — come standard rather than as an enterprise add-on. "Email everyone whose next order is overdue" is a campaign no other platform here can express.

The cost is real: roughly 1.7–1.9× Mailchimp and about 75 % more than Omnisend at comparable list sizes. Our Mailchimp vs Klaviyo breakdown has the full cost curves.

2. Omnisend — best value for growing stores

Omnisend Best value
Klaviyo's features at Mailchimp's price, for smaller stores.
Free plan Excellent
8.5/10

What works

  • Pre-built ecommerce automations work out of the box — abandoned cart running in under an hour
  • Roughly 40–60 % cheaper than Klaviyo at comparable list sizes
  • 24/7 support on every paid plan including the cheapest, which is unusual
  • Email, SMS and push share one automation flow

What doesn't

  • Segmentation is shallower than Klaviyo once you want multi-condition behavioural logic
  • Revenue attribution exists but is less granular per message
  • Fewer native integrations outside the main ecommerce platforms
Best for: Shopify and WooCommerce stores under roughly $50k/month that want Klaviyo-style flows without Klaviyo pricing.
Skip it if: You need deep predictive segmentation and per-message revenue attribution.

Try Omnisend free

Omnisend is the answer for the large middle of the Shopify market: stores doing real revenue but not yet at the scale where Klaviyo's premium is trivially recovered.

The pre-built ecommerce automations are the strongest argument. Abandoned cart, browse abandonment, welcome and post-purchase flows exist as working templates rather than blank canvases — a store owner with no email background has abandoned cart running within an hour. That matters more than feature depth for a business where nobody's job title is "email marketer".

It also offers 24/7 support on every paid plan including the cheapest, which is unusual and genuinely valuable when a flow misfires on a Saturday during a promotion.

Where it trails Klaviyo: segmentation is shallower once you want multi-condition behavioural logic, and revenue attribution exists but is less granular per message. Those gaps matter at scale and are invisible below it.

3. Brevo — cheapest way to start properly

Brevo
Billed by sends, not contacts — the cheapest way to hold a big list.
Free plan Excellent
8.2/10

What works

  • Send-based pricing means a dormant list costs nothing to keep
  • Transactional email, SMS and marketing campaigns share one account and one sending reputation
  • Free tier allows unlimited contacts — unique among serious platforms
  • EU-based with straightforward GDPR posture

What doesn't

  • Template library and editor feel a generation behind Mailchimp
  • Automation builder is capable but visibly less refined than Klaviyo's
  • Fewer native integrations; expect to use Zapier for long-tail tools
Best for: Businesses with large but infrequently mailed lists, or anyone sending transactional and marketing email together.
Skip it if: Your team judges a platform by the polish of its editor.

Try Brevo free

Brevo is not an ecommerce specialist, and for a store past $20k/month it is the wrong choice. For a new or small store it is frequently the right one, because it bills on emails sent rather than contacts stored.

A store with 15,000 contacts mailing twice a month pays roughly $29. The same list on Klaviyo is around $250. When your total monthly revenue is $4,000, that difference is not a rounding error — it is the marketing budget.

Brevo also handles transactional email — order confirmations, shipping notifications — on the same account and sending reputation, which most stores pay a separate provider for. Full comparison in Brevo vs Mailchimp.

4. Mailchimp — only if design speed is the priority

Mailchimp
The default choice — and increasingly the expensive one.
Free plan Very good
7.9/10

What works

  • Template editor and asset library remain the friendliest for non-designers
  • Integration coverage is close to universal across ecommerce and CMS platforms
  • Reporting is clear enough that a founder can act on it without a marketer
  • Deliverability at default settings is reliably good

What doesn't

  • Bills on total contacts including unsubscribed profiles unless you actively clean
  • Automation depth trails Klaviyo and ActiveCampaign at every comparable price
  • Price scaling from 10k to 50k contacts is among the harshest in the category
Best for: Newsletters and simple campaign sending where design speed beats automation depth.
Skip it if: Your revenue depends on behavioural, product-triggered flows.

Try Mailchimp free

Mailchimp is no longer the obvious Shopify choice. Its integration passes less order data than Klaviyo's or Omnisend's, which caps how sophisticated your segments can be, and its contact-based pricing counts unsubscribed profiles unless you archive them.

It remains the best editor in the category, and for a store where a founder builds every email and values that above all else, it is a defensible choice. Just know what you are trading away — the behavioural segmentation that makes ecommerce email profitable is the part you are giving up.

Build these three flows before optimising anything

Platform choice matters far less than whether these exist. Most stores that "tried email and it did not work" never built them.

  1. Welcome series (3 emails). Triggered on signup, sent over five days. Reaches people at peak interest and typically outperforms every broadcast campaign you will ever send.
  2. Abandoned cart (3 emails). One hour, 24 hours, 72 hours. Usually the single highest-revenue automation in an ecommerce account, often by a large margin.
  3. Post-purchase (2–3 emails). Confirmation, then care or usage guidance, then a review request. Drives repeat purchase rate, which is the metric that actually compounds.

Frequently asked questions

Is Klaviyo worth it for a small Shopify store?

Below roughly $20k a month, usually not yet. Klaviyo's advantage is behavioural segmentation and revenue attribution, both of which need volume to be meaningful — with 30 orders a month there is not enough data for predictive analytics to say anything useful. Start on Omnisend or Brevo and move to Klaviyo when email revenue justifies it.

Can I switch email platforms later without losing anything?

Contacts, tags and consent data migrate cleanly between all four. Automations do not — flow logic is structurally different in each platform and must be rebuilt. Budget a week for a store with several active flows, and treat the rebuild as an upgrade rather than a copy: the new platform should express things the old one could not.

How much of a Shopify store's revenue should come from email?

25–35 % for a well-run store with the three core flows in place and a list built from real customers. Below 15 % usually means either the automations do not exist or the list is largely cold. Above 40 % often means paid acquisition is underperforming rather than that email is exceptional.

Do I need SMS as well as email?

Not at first. SMS has higher open rates and much higher costs, tighter consent rules and far less tolerance for frequency. Get the three core email flows working first. If you then add SMS, Klaviyo and Omnisend both share profiles and flows across channels, which is much cleaner than running a separate SMS vendor.

What about Shopify Email, the built-in tool?

It is cheap and fine for simple broadcast campaigns, and the free allowance covers a small store's newsletter. It is not an automation platform — the flow builder is basic and segmentation is limited. Use it if email is a minor channel for you; move to a real platform the moment you want abandoned cart working properly.
